Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fred Boyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ludwig Manres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manres is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Aqualung - Jethro Tull. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 22 - 2, fighting out of London, Fred Boyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ludwig Manres!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manres steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Boyle.
Boyle shoots in looking for a takedown but Manres manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Boyle's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Boyle shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Manres is trying to defend but Boyle finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Boyle wants to control but Manres is keeping him busy.
Boyle looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Boyle is pressing down on Manres's thigh, looking to free his foot. Manres is holding on for now.
Boyle passes to full mount!
Manres is desperately trying to improve his position but Boyle has a good base and remains in mount.
Manres is still trying to improve position.

Boyle has control of Manres's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Manres regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Boyle tries to control but Manres wriggling away.

Boyle jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Manres is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Manres and Boyle has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Manres is trying to get back to half guard.

Boyle wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Manres, who protects the arm well.

Manres regains half guard there - taking advantage of Boyle's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boyle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Manres does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Boyle wants to work for an arm triangle but Manres is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Boyle is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Manres to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

No joy there for Boyle, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Boyle fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Manres sprawls well initially but Boyle persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Manres is trying to get back to full guard.
Boyle is looking to stall here but Manres recovers full guard.
Boyle with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Boyle trying to control but Manres is working from the bottom.
Boyle sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Manres's guard.
Boyle wants to pass the guard but Manres is defending well.
Fred Boyle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Manres moves into full guard.
Manres is trying to control the position but Boyle postures up.
Boyle loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

and Boyle counters with a shoot takedown. Manres fights it but they end up in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Manres is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Boyle is aware though and is defending well.
Boyle wants to control from the top but Manres keeps moving.

Boyle drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Manres dives on top into guard.
Boyle is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Boyle is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Manres is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Boyle wants to control the position but Manres says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Boyle is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Manres pulls his head out easily.

Boyle tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Manres wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Manres is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Boyle has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Manres connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Boyle some visible discomfort.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Manres lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

A close second round but Ludwig Manres will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Boyle pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boyle uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Manres has time to react.
Boyle shoots in looking for a takedown but Manres manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Boyle's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Fred Boyle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Boyle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Manres looking to score a takedown here. Boyle is defending well but Manres drives through and ends up in Boyle's guard.
Manres is looking to advance position but Boyle has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Boyle throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Manres is in a bad position with Boyle working for a choke. Manres manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.
Boyle can't keep his opponent in guard - Manres advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Manres is taking a breather. Boyle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Manres is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Boyle sees it coming and defends easily.
Manres takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Manres is trying to control the action in half guard but Boyle is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Boyle is trying to maintain the position but Manres is very close to passing his half guard.
Boyle is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Boyle is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Manres's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Manres's back!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Boyle keeps control of the position easily here as Manres tries to buck him off.

Boyle seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Manres's chin but Manres turns very nicely into Boyle's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Manres.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I think Manres has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
