PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ronald Belford Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hachiro Matsui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott comes to the cage accompanied by Big Balls by AC/DC. Matsui has chosen Solvent by Skinny Puppy as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Hachiro Matsui enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ronald Belford Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hachiro Matsui!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matsui blocks a jab.
Matsui misses with the combination.
Matsui tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Scott paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A jab lands there for Matsui.
Matsui with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Scott misses with a jab, cross combination.
Scott doesn't manage to clinch there - Matsui circles away.
Scott moves out of range of the body kick from Matsui.
Matsui works Scott's body with a nice hook.
Scott throws a series of strikes that have Matsui backpedaling.
Matsui lands a head shot.
Scott scores with a sloppy right hand. Matsui should have avoided that one.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Scott will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Scott takes a swing at Matsui's ribcage but misses.
Matsui staying out of range there.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Matsui has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Matsui has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Scott finds it's way round the side to connect with Matsui's head.
Matsui takes a swing at Scott's ribcage but misses.

Matsui misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Scott.
Matsui waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Scott.

Matsui drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Matsui stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Scott misses with a few strikes there.
Matsui lands with a right hand.
Sloppy strikes from Scott. Those never looked like landing.

Matsui shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Scott is trying to defend but Matsui finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Scott is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Matsui's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Matsui's back!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Matsui tries to escape but Scott has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Matsui looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Matsui is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Matsui keeps trying to improve his position.

Scott is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Matsui is defending well though. Scott let's go of the attempt for now.

Scott working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Scott is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Matsui has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Scott is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Scott has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Matsui has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Matsui tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Scott working for a submission but Matsui is keeping him at bay.
Matsui is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Matsui wants to control but Scott is having none of it.
Scott looking to finish with strikes here!
Matsui keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Scott wants to finish this one by submission but Matsui is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Scott.
Matsui regains half guard.
Matsui manages to get to full guard.
Scott won't allow Matsui to sweep him here.
Matsui manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Scott is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Scott in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Scott is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hachiro Matsui dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A chopping leg kick lands by Matsui.
Matsui avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Matsui throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Scott was covering up waiting for the punch and Matsui finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Matsui sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Scott's guard.
Matsui wants to pass the guard but Scott is defending well.
Scott wants to get back to his feet.
We've been hearing good reports from Scott's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Matsui is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Scott is just riding it out for now. Matsui eventually gives up the hold.
Matsui moves nicely into side control.
Scott managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Matsui.
Hachiro Matsui has got the better of the ground game so far.

Scott is trying to improve his position.
Matsui scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Scott to see if he's OK.
Matsui is chipping away with strikes.

Scott sneaks back into half guard.

Scott is trying to stand back up but Matsui is controlling him
Matsui passes the guard and advances to mount!
Scott wants to hold on but Matsui pushes him away.
Matsui trying to control but Scott is having none of it.
Scott is trying to escape the mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Matsui lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Scott hang on?
Matsui wants to control the pace but Scott is squirming around nicely.
Scott is bucking up trying to escape but Matsui cracks him with another couple of good strikes.


Scott is rocked!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matsui takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Oh Scott is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Matsui lands a big elbow - Scott is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Scott is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Hachiro Matsui!
During a confident post fight interview, Hachiro Matsui thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
