PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Skyline (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Tear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Skyline!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Tear!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick lands there from Skyline.

Tear tries to sprawl but Skyline drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Tear wants to get back to full guard.
Tear is concentrating on defense, preventing Skyline from advancing position.
Tear wants to control but Skyline is keeping busy.
Skyline trying to control from half guard but Tear is working away.

Mike Skyline has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Tear takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Skyline instigates a clinch.

Tear lands a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tear sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Skyline trying to keep a closed guard but Tear is proving a slippery customer.
Tear engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Skyline shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tear manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Skyline passes Tear's left leg - he's now in half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Skyline drops an elbow to the side of Tear's head.
Skyline controlling the action here.
Skyline has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Skyline is trying to control. Tear wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Tear moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Skyline wants to control from the top but Tear keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mike Skyline just wasn't active enough.

Tear scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Tear stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Skyline feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Tear looks winded!
Tear keeping moving, preventing Skyline from controlling successfully.
Skyline is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tear is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mike Skyline wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Skyline lands with a thumping leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Skyline dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Skyline throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tear tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Skyline is in Tear's guard.
Tear wants to sweep but no luck.
Skyline really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Skyline trying to control the position from guard on top but Tear is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Skyline postures up and lands a big shot to Tear's brow.
Skyline won't allow Tear to sweep him here.
Skyline works over Tear with some ground and pound from guard.
Tear tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Skyline looking to pass the guard.
Skyline wants to control from the top but Tear keeps moving.

We're going to have a standup here because Mike Skyline wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Skyline fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tear to the ground. Skyline is now in Tear's guard.
Tear is breathing heavily.
Skyline keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Tear's head.
Tear looking for a sweep. Not yet Tear, not yet.
Skyline would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Skyline slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Skyline stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tear swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mike Skyline.

Skyline gets the takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Tear bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Skyline gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Tear has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Skyline avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Skyline breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A good leg kick by Skyline.

Skyline moves into range and clinches up with Tear.

Skyline is trying to trip Tear. He has hold of a leg but Tear is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Skyline persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Tear wants to sweep but no luck.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Skyline pushing down on Tear's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Skyline tries to stand and escape but Tear is controlling the position.
Tear is trying to control but can't.
Skyline is trying to control. Tear wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tear takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Skyline looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Tear wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Skyline dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Skyline moves into the clinch.
Skyline throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Tears head.

Skyline breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Skyline swings for the body but Tear moves out of range.

Skyline throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Tear was covering up waiting for the punch and Skyline finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Skyline wants to control from the top but Tear keeps moving.
Skyline wants to get up but he can't break Tear's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tear is on top in guard.
Tear controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Tear trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Tear trying to control the position from guard on top but Skyline is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tear sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Skyline's guard.

Skyline actively working from the bottom here.
Skyline wants to control the action here but instead Tear manages to pass to full mount!
Tear looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tear moves to the back.

Tear sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Skyline taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jack Tear!
