The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ross walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Excellent takedown into side control there by Ross. Sloppy strikes there by Ross. Johnston is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Ross is controlling him well. Ross cracks Johnston with an elbow. That is naaassty. Ross misses with an attempted head punch from side control. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Johnston wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Ross really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnston. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Johnston wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land. Ross working the ground and pound from side control. Ross scores with punches from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnston is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ross asserts his dominance and retains side control. Ross lands an elbow. Ross is working Johnston over with some ground and pound from side control. Johnston has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Johnston is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Ross's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ross passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Johnston!
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnston is trying to stand. Johnston can't escape the position.
Johnston wants to control but Ross is having none of it. Ross scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Johnston?
Ross postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Johnston looks a forlorn figure.
Johnston is rocked! Ross postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Johnston bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Ross and the fight is over!
