PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Molen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piotr Zaitev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Molen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Piotr Zaitev! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zaitev clinches up against the cage. Zaitev wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Zaitev jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Molen walks away with a smile on his face. Zaitev gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Molen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Molen. Molen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Zaitev on his heels. He'll look to pass Zaitev's guard now, I'm sure. Zaitev is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zaitev can do anything to dispel that myth. Molen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Zaitev works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Molen with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Molen controlling from the top position. Molen throwing strikes but missing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Molen showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Molen throwing strikes but missing. Zaitev controls Molen momentarily but Molen frees himself. Molen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Molen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Zaitev has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Molen is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Zaitev. Zaitev is letting Molen control him for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zaitev trying to control but Molen flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! Molen is hanging on to Zaitev's back as he tries to escape.
Zaitev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Molen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Zaitev has hold of Molen's leg, trying to break free but it's let Molen lock up a rear naked choke! This could be big trouble! Zaitev is turning an unusual color here… he's out! Molen throws him to one side and jumps onto the cage to celebrate with his fans.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jason Molen!
