The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nielsen tests Dai's chin there with a solid looking shot. Nielsen throws a sloppy head kick and Dai moves out of range easily. Nielsen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nielsen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
It looks like Zach Nielsen has been cut. Dai ducks under a wild hook from Nielsen. Dai throws a jab when Nielsen was well out of range. Dai throws a big shot that misses. Dai takes a shot right to the bread basket. Dai throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nielsen ducks under a wild hook from Dai. Nielsen avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Dai throws a looping overhand right but Nielsen ducks down to avoid it. Nice cross by Dai. Dai looks gassed! Dai buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Dai wants to clinch. Nielsen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nielsen showed some decent athleticism there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nielsen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Nielsen working the head and body with strikes. Nielsen lands strikes from half guard. Dai is defending against the submission attempts here by Nielsen.
Nielsen stops Dai from getting back to his feet.
Nielsen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Dai landing small, sideways elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nielsen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dai knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Dai wants to get back to his feet.
Dai is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Nielsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nielsen moves nicely into side control. Dai is looking to reverse the position. Dai tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Dai has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Nielsen looking for the rear naked choke.
