PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Gunner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Winston McCall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCall is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Parkway Drive - Sleepwalker. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Winston McCall!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gunner smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
McCall looks to land a combination but Gunner avoids it well.
Gunner looks to land a combination. McCall sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
McCall is looking to land body kicks.
Gunner fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. McCall looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Gunner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McCall was well out of range. Poor timing from Gunner.
McCall misses with the combination.
Gunner misses with a double jab

and McCall counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McCall is trying to stick to Gunner's back but Gunner is turning into McCall. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in McCall's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gunner.
McCall is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McCall is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

McCall is trying to work for a kimura but Gunner is defending well.

McCall seems to be working for a kimura but Gunner defends the submission attempt.

McCall is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gunner flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Gunner is staying active underneath McCall, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
McCall is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

McCall is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gunner is refusing to be controlled, as McCall sits in half guard.

McCall thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gunner's head.

McCall wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gunner keeps working.

McCall tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gunner knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gunner bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Gunner stands and throws McCall's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Gunner goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, McCall rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gunner's guard! Nice work there by McCall!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
McCall advances position into side control!
McCall advances nicely into full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunner lands a head kick. McCall smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
A solid leg kick lands there for McCall.

McCall advances nicely into full mount.
McCall moves to take his opponent's back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gunner rolls, trying to escape but McCall keeps control of the position.

McCall patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

McCall is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Gunner knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Gunner for a finish.
Winston McCall has got the better of the ground game so far.

McCall looking for the RNC.
Gunner manages to reverse the position and now he's in McCall's guard. Nice work there by Gunner.
McCall is trying to keep Gunner in close.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McCall is looking to work his way around to Gunner's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

McCall is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Gunner is in real trouble.

McCall is working for a rear naked choke. Gunner is not defending it well and McCall has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Gunner refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Gunner's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
