Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenny McCormick! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yoshi Suzuki! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCormick throws a sloppy head kick and Suzuki moves out of range easily. McCormick connects with a high kick. Suzuki dives in and scores a takedown into McCormick's guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Suzuki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McCormick is keeping the position for now. Suzuki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. McCormick is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Suzuki is controlling him. Suzuki thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Suzuki advances position into side control! Suzuki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McCormick is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Suzuki is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McCormick has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suzuki working away. Suzuki tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. McCormick trying to remain calm as Suzuki controls from the top position. McCormick is trying to get back to half guard. Suzuki is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McCormick has escaped the position, nice work there. McCormick wants to get back to his feet but Suzuki drags him back down.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Suzuki tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Suzuki has hold of McCormick's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! McCormick tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Suzuki cranks the arm and McCormick screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from McCormick, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Yoshi Suzuki! Yoshi Suzuki is the new middleweight champion! Yoshi Suzuki decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
