PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Randall Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JB Brubaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes into the arena with Psycho - 50 Cent blaring out of the sound system. Brubaker has chosen August Burns Red - Poor Millionaire as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, JB Brubaker!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
A telegraphed right hand from Brubaker misses the target.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt
and Brubaker counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Brubaker connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Johnson's hands.
Brubaker throws a chopping leg kick but Johnson manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches.

Johnson is trying to drag Brubaker to the mat but Brubaker just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Johnson has Brubaker pressed against the cage, preventing Brubaker from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Brubaker.

Brubaker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johnson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Brubaker to score with a decent uppercut.
JB Brubaker is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Brubaker throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and Brubaker counters with a left to the body.
Johnson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brubaker tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Johnson was well out of range. Poor timing from Brubaker.
Brubaker throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Johnson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Johnson has managed to clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Johnson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Johnson is struggling to control the position.
Johnson is working for takedown but Brubaker is calmly controlling the position for now.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Brubaker takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Brubaker tries to circle away but Johnson has him pinned against the cage.

Johnson gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Johnson is taking a breather. Brubaker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brubaker is trying to control but can't.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Randall Johnson.
Brubaker changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnson shoots for a takedown but Brubaker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Johnson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Brubaker takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Johnson looks to score with a jab to the body but Brubaker is just out of range.

Johnson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brubaker as he jumps to the side.

Brubaker lands a left hand that snaps the head of Johnson backwards.
Johnson is looking to control Brubaker's arms but Brubaker gets an underhook and turns him. Now Johnson has his back to the cage.

Brubaker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Brubaker misses with a few strikes there.
Johnson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Brubaker.
Brubaker throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Brubaker comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

JB Brubaker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Brubaker drops Johnson with a naaaaasty hook - Johnson is in real trouble here! Brubaker dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). JB Brubaker!
