Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James LaBrie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akaedin Mariner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James LaBrie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Akaedin Mariner!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LaBrie changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Mariner is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
LaBrie stuffs the takedown attempt from Mariner. Mariner gets slowly back to his feet.
Akaedin Mariner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
LaBrie throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

LaBrie forces Mariner back against the cage and clinches.
LaBrie tries for a takedown but Mariner manages to get underhooks.
Mariner is trying to pull guard but LaBrie has him pressed against the cage.
Still in the clinch, LaBrie scores with a nice short uppercut.
LaBrie has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mariner after a bit of a struggle.
Mariner is looking to take this one to the mat.
James LaBrie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akaedin Mariner.

LaBrie drags the fight down to the ground.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

LaBrie is striking but Mariner is not phased and passes to half guard.

Mariner is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

LaBrie knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mariner on the ground.

LaBrie manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Mariner is squirming around, avoiding LaBrie's attempts to control the action.
LaBrie avoids the attempt from Mariner to control.
Mariner manages to regain half guard. Good work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
LaBrie keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Mariner has taken the fight to the clinch.

LaBrie lands a left hand.
A short right hand to the side of the head by LaBrie.
LaBrie is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mariner pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Mariner gets underhooks to prevent LaBrie's takedown attempt.
Mariner tries to pull guard but LaBrie forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

LaBrie jumps into guard, dragging Mariner to the mat.
LaBrie throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Mariner wants to control from the top but LaBrie keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
LaBrie wants to stand and escape but Mariner is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Mariner darts in and clinches LaBrie up against the cage.
Mariner tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
LaBrie makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Mariner has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics LaBrie uses from the top position.
LaBrie engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
LaBrie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mariner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mariner is looking for a kimura but LaBrie is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mariner to get the leverage.

Mariner tries to stand but can't do so whilst LaBrie controls his leg.

Mariner wants to lay and pray for a moment but LaBrie keeps working.
Mariner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Akaedin Mariner wasn't active enough on the ground.
LaBrie misses with a body shot.

Mariner takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
LaBrie misses the shot to the body.
LaBrie looks to score with a jab to the body but Mariner is just out of range.
LaBrie misses the shot to the body.
Mariner looks for a takedown but LaBrie sprawls well.
James LaBrie is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mariner fails with the takedown.

LaBrie looks to score with a jab to the body but Mariner is just out of range.
LaBrie scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Mariner is breathing heavily.

Mariner takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

LaBrie gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
LaBrie wants a takedown.

LaBrie gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mariner regains guard.

Mariner throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! LaBrie escapes and throws Mariner's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
LaBrie scores with a couple of short elbows.

LaBrie trying to control the position but Mariner is working away.

LaBrie stands up.
Mariner closes the distance and clinches up with LaBrie, looking for a takedown. Mariner pushes LaBrie against the cage but LaBrie circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

LaBrie takes the fight into the clinch.
LaBrie lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James LaBrie dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Mariner gets a clinch.
LaBrie lands on the inside with an uppercut.
LaBrie pushes Mariner back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Mariner trying to land knees to the body.
Mariner jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as LaBrie walks away with a smile on his face. Mariner gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mariner misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
LaBrie lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
LaBrie misses the shot to the body.
Horrible takedown by Mariner or perhaps it was just good defense by LaBrie which made him look bad.

LaBrie tries to keep at a distance but Mariner has taken the fight into the clinch.
LaBrie can't get the takedown.
LaBrie throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Mariner takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

LaBrie drags the fight down to the ground.
James LaBrie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mariner preventing the sweep.
LaBrie looking to control.
LaBrie is looking to sweep but instead, Mariner has passed into half guard.
LaBrie trying to control from the bottom.
LaBrie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
LaBrie is looking to control Mariner's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can LaBrie avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

LaBrie tries to get to full guard but Mariner has control of the leg.

The ref stands the fighters back up because James LaBrie just wasn't active enough.
Mariner keeps LaBrie at a distance using the push kick.
LaBrie takes a swing at Mariner's ribcage but misses.

Mariner clinches.
LaBrie is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mariner to keep the fight standing.
LaBrie scores with a shoulder strike.
A body shot lands from LaBrie.
LaBrie lands a left hand.

A short uppercut from LaBrie.
James LaBrie has scored more points in the clinch so far.
LaBrie tries to pull guard but Mariner forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James LaBrie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mariner is trying to pull guard but LaBrie turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
LaBrie lands a hook that snaps the head of Mariner backwards.
LaBrie drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mariner pulls his leg out and moves away.

James LaBrie is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Mariner shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts LaBrie as he jumps to the side.
Mariner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but LaBrie was well out of range. Poor timing from Mariner.

Mariner takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
LaBrie ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Mariner misses the shot to the body.
The crowd cheers as LaBrie lands an impressive looking overhand right. Mariner doesn't seem phased though.
Mariner pulls out of a head kick attempt.
LaBrie changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
LaBrie swings and misses with a hook to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
LaBrie throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
James LaBrie is winning the standup battle so far.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mariner.
Akaedin Mariner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mariner takes a body punch but keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
James LaBrie showed his dominance in that final round.
Well LaBrie has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
