PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Waltari Suokuokka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Suokuokka comes into the arena with Paul Engemann - Scarface (Push It to the Limit) blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Waltari Suokuokka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 21 - 1, fighting out of London, Matthew Cannon!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Cannon.
Suokuokka fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cannon has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Suokuokka tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Cannon counters with a left to the body.
Suokuokka doesn't manage to clinch there - Cannon circles away.
Suokuokka wants to clinch up but Cannon keeps it at a distance.

Suokuokka closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cannon quickly recovers to half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Suokuokka not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cannon is staying active underneath Suokuokka, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Suokuokka working the head and body with strikes.
Suokuokka is controlling the pace.
Suokuokka missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cannon tries to kick Suokuokka off but Suokuokka keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Cannon wants to improve his position but Suokuokka is controlling well.
Cannon wants to control but Suokuokka is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Cannon is staying active underneath Suokuokka, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Suokuokka thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cannon's head.
Cannon tries to kick Suokuokka off but Suokuokka keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Suokuokka missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cannon is refusing to be controlled, as Suokuokka sits in half guard.
Suokuokka is really struggling to control Cannon but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Suokuokka thows a huge punch but Cannon dodges it nicely.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Suokuokka lands a nice short elbow.
Suokuokka seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cannon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Suokuokka is nestled in close to Cannon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Suokuokka looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cannon is trying to get back to full guard.

Suokuokka missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cannon works his way to full guard. Good work.
Cannon looking for a sweep. Not yet Cannon, not yet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Suokuokka accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cannon is pulling down on Suokuokka's head to control his posture.
Suokuokka stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cannon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Suokuokka trying to control but Cannon is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cannon trying to keep a closed guard but Suokuokka is proving a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cannon circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cannon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Suokuokka moves away.
Suokuokka closes the distance looking to clinch
and Cannon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Suokuokka tries to clinch up but Cannon circles away and keeps his distance.
Cannon lands with a nice body punch.
Suokuokka avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Suokuokka tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cannon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Suokuokka uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cannon.
Waltari Suokuokka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cannon looks to land a right hand but Suokuokka moved out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Suokuokka has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Suokuokka is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Suokuokka looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Suokuokka closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Cannon swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cannon bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Suokuokka fails with an attempt to clinch.
Suokuokka tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cannon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Suokuokka somewhat.
Suokuokka tries to clinch but Cannon moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Suokuokka slips a jab from Cannon.
Cannon throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Suokuokka is looking to clinch but Cannon is avoiding it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Waltari Suokuokka dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cannon throws out a loose jab but Suokuokka uses good head movement to avoid it.
Suokuokka closes the distance but Cannon moves to the side
letting Cannon counter with a right hand.
Cannon lands the left hand.
Cannon misses with a looping left.
Suokuokka tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Suokuokka darts in trying to clinch
and Suokuokka takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Suokuokka tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cannon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cannon bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Suokuokka's head backwards.
Cannon swats away the attempt to clinch by Suokuokka.

Suokuokka instigates a clinch.
Cannon is looking to control Suokuokka's arms but Suokuokka gets an underhook and turns him. Now Cannon has his back to the cage.
Suokuokka looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cannon tries to circle away but Suokuokka has him pinned against the cage.

Suokuokka breaks from the clinch.
Suokuokka shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cannon but Cannon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Suokuokka takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Suokuokka gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Cannon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Cannon misses with a two punch combination.
Waltari Suokuokka is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cannon fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Cannon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Suokuokka pushes Cannon up against the cage in a clinch.
Suokuokka lands a damaging elbow.
Suokuokka gets underhooks to prevent Cannon's takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cannon prevents a body shot from Suokuokka.
Cannon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cannon wants to break the clinch but can't.
Suokuokka swings wildly with an uppercut but Cannon uses good head movement to avoid it.
Suokuokka fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Waltari Suokuokka. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suokuokka will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Cannon up against the cage.
Cannon is pressed up against the cage. Suokuokka has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cannon down to the mat. Cannon avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
A solid leg kick lands there for Suokuokka.
Suokuokka's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Cannon connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Suokuokka scrambles back to his feet.
Suokuokka moves out of range as Cannon strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Suokuokka scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cannon doesn't seem bothered though.
Cannon scores with a shot to the body.
Suokuokka tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cannon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cannon displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Suokuokka takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


Suokuokka is rocked!
Cannon misses with a jab, cross combination.
Oh Suokuokka is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Suokuokka tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cannon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Suokuokka throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Suokuokka fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cannon connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Suokuokka tumbling to the canvas! Cannon pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Suokuokka was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Matthew Cannon!
Matthew Cannon very nearly forgot to thank Xtreme Merchandise amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
