Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Esa Pablo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joonas Laakkonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Esa Pablo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joonas Laakkonen! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Laakkonen keeps the fight on the outside. Laakkonen tries to clinch and Pablo counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Pablo missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Laakkonen moves into full guard.
Laakkonen has his foot on Pablo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pablo works his way back into a safe position though. Laakkonen controls Pablo momentarily but Pablo frees himself. Laakkonen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pablo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Laakkonen has control of Pablo's left arm, preventing Pablo from doing any damage. Pablo preventing the sweep. Laakkonen trying to keep a closed guard but Pablo is proving a slippery customer.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Pablo trying to control but Laakkonen is working from the bottom. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Laakkonen can do anything to dispel that myth. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Laakkonen doesn't succeed with the takedown and Pablo counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pablo. Laakkonen blocks an uppercut.
Pablo tries to break the clinch but Laakkonen is controlling the position. Laakkonen can't get the takedown.

Esa Pablo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joonas Laakkonen. Pablo makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Pablo tightens his grip and picks Laakkonen up, before dumping him to the ground. Laakkonen manages to land in guard. Pablo trying to control but Laakkonen is working from the bottom. But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pablo, into his guard. Laakkonen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Laakkonen is trying to stand. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Pablo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Laakkonen wants to control but Pablo is having none of it. Laakkonen's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Laakkonen is in all sorts of trouble here.

Pablo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pablo closes the distance looking to clinch and Laakkonen counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pablo's guard now. Laakkonen wants to pass the guard but Pablo is keeping the position.

He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Laakkonen looking to pass the guard. Laakkonen pushes down on Pablo's leg and manages to get into half guard. Laakkonen wants to pass to mount but Pablo is defending the position. Laakkonen decides to return to a standing position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Laakkonen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Pablo is looking to improve his position.
Laakkonen is trying to control the action in half guard but Pablo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Pablo is doing well to control the position and prevent Laakkonen from advancing to side control. Pablo trying to hold on to Laakkonen's head to control him but Laakkonen postures up.
Laakkonen is tying to control. Pablo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Laakkonen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Laakkonen doesn't succeed with the takedown and Pablo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joonas Laakkonen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Pablo tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Laakkonen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pablo's guard. Laakkonen is in close to Pablo's body, working some short punches and elbows. Joonas Laakkonen has got the better of the ground game so far. Pablo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Laakkonen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Laakkonen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Laakkonen controls from within his opponent's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Pablo pushes a forearm under Laakkonen's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Laakkonen is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
