Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Herbert Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerry Grapist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grapist has chosen Know Your Enemy by Rage Against the Machine as his entrance music. Herbert Hughes has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Herbert Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jerry Grapist!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Hughes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
A combination from Hughes does no damage.
Jab from Grapist.
Grapist misses with a looping left.
Grapist wants to clinch.
Grapist is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hughes.
Hughes keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Grapist has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Hughes.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Grapist is defended easily by Hughes.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Hughes looks to land a combination. Grapist sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Hughes lands a head kick!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hughes throws a head kick that Grapist semi-blocks.


Grapist is rocked!
Good leg kick by Hughes there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Grapist is still on wobbly legs! Can Hughes finish him?
Grapist swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Grapist seems to have recovered his senses.
No luck for Grapist with that takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grapist misses with a series of wild punches.

Hughes drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hughes tries to free his leg and advance position but Grapist is retaining full guard.
Hughes is stalling in the full guard.
Hughes postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Grapist has momentary wrist control but Hughes slips an elbow through the middle.
Hughes stays in close to Grapist's body and controls the position.
Hughes forces his way into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hughes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Well, if Hughes is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Grapist has hold of Hughes's hands but Hughes slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hughes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Grapist defends it well.
Hughes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hughes connects with a nice short shot to Grapist's temple.

Hughes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Hughes tries to pass to full mount but Grapist defends it.

Hughes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Grapist tries to get to full guard but Hughes has control of the leg.
Hughes not doing much here.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Herbert Hughes just wasn't active enough.

Hughes takes the fight into the clinch.
Hughes presses Grapist against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Grapist gets underhooks to prevent Hughes's takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Grapist has had enough of the clinch but Hughes keeps him there for the moment.
Grapist has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hughes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Herbert Hughes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Grapist.
Hughes tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Hughes jumps into guard, dragging Grapist to the mat.
Grapist looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hughes working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Hughes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hughes is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hughes looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Hughes is pushing down on Grapist's leg trying to pass to half guard. Grapist is fighting to maintain full guard but Hughes has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hughes closes the distance and lands a one-two.
A nice leg kick lands there from Hughes.
Hughes scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Grapist tries to clinch up.

Hughes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Grapist was covering up waiting for the punch and Hughes finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hughes forces his way into half guard.

Hughes frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hughes has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Grapist's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Hughes postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Grapist looks a forlorn figure.
Hughes looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Grapist covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Herbert Hughes!
