PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Josh Michaels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Myers Hockles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Myers Hockles told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Josh Michaels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Myers Hockles!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hockles lands a nice looking kick to the body. Michaels takes a step back to recover.
Michaels thows a body shot but no joy.
Hockles slips a jab and a cross from Michaels.
Nice defenses there by Hockles.
Michaels displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hockles throws out the jab.
Hockles throws a front kick that sends Michaels stumbling back into the cage.

Hockles lands a left and a right that send Michaels crashing to the mat, dazed. Hockles thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Michaels is rocked!
Myers Hockles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Michaels is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Michaels avoids the head kick by Hockles.
Oh Michaels is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Michaels on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Hockles throws a head kick that misses.
Sloppy strikes from Michaels. Those never looked like landing.
Hockles uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Michaels.
Michaels seems to have got his legs back now.

Hockles closes the distance and clinches.

Hockles pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hockles gets a clinch.
Michaels is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hockles gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hockles gets through Michaels's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hockles throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Michaels blocks it with crossed arms.

Hockles escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Hockles darts in and clinches Michaels up against the cage.

Hockles breaks the clinch.
Hockles misses with a head kick.
Hockles showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Michaels.
Hockles scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Michaels doesn't seem bothered though.
Hockles tries to clinch up.

Hockles forces Michaels back against the cage and clinches.
Hockles makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Hockles pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Michaels misses with a series of wild punches.
Hockles scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Michaels blocks a head kick by Hockles.
Hockles throws a nice outside leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Michaels just misses with a punch to the body.

Hockles clinches up against the cage.
Hockles tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Hockles landing knees to the head.
Hockles stalling the fight.

Hockles pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hockles moves into the clinch.
Michaels tries to break free but Hockles pushes him back against the cage.

Hockles breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hockles closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Hockles goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
The fighters circling - Michaels throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Michaels connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Hockles lands a big head kick that sends Michaels tumbling to the mat! Hockles takes a step backwards and waves Michaels back to his feet - he wants the finish!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hockles dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Michaels has had enough and taps out.
