Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mario Ruskov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre Lemieux (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mario Ruskov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre Lemieux!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Ruskov.

Lemieux moves into the clinch.
Ruskov takes a knee to the side of the body.
Ruskov is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Nice elbow from Lemieux.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Lemieux.


It looks like Mario Ruskov has been cut.
Lemieux crunches a lovely knee into Ruskov's ribcage.

Lemieux breaks the clinch.

Lemieux has closed the distance and engaged Ruskov in a clinch.

Lemieux pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ruskov doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Lemieux counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ruskov won't be happy with that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ruskov takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Lemieux tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Ruskov takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruskov can't do much from the bottom here.
Lemieux throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ruskov managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Lemieux.
Lemieux cracks Ruskov with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Ruskov is looking for a sweep.
Lemieux working the head and body with strikes.
Lemieux throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Ruskov works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Lemieux sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ruskov defending well though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lemieux connects with a nice short shot to Ruskov's temple.
Lemieux is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Ruskov reverses the position - he's now on top in Lemieux's guard.
Lemieux is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lemieux can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ruskov won't allow Lemieux to sweep him here.
Ruskov wants to stand but Lemieux has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Lemieux really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruskov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lemieux tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lemieux is still trying to improve position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lemieux pulls Ruskov in close to his closed guard and prevents Ruskov from doing any damage or advancing position.
Lemieux is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ruskov is controlling him.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Pierre Lemieux.
Ruskov tries to clinch up

and Lemieux counters by clinching up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lemieux pulls guard effortlessly.
Lemieux not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lemieux utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ruskov controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Ruskov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ruskov preventing the sweep.
Lemieux wants to stand up but Ruskov is controlling him.
Ruskov works over Lemieux with some ground and pound from guard.
Ruskov engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lemieux wants to sweep but no luck.
Lemieux has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Ruskov has passed into side control.
Lemieux tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ruskov presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Lemieux's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Lemieux tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Lemieux wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Ruskov is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Lemieux has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Ruskov has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Lemieux taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Ruskov doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mario Ruskov!
