PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zulu Barabas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zacharius Pendragon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zulu Barabas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 43 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zacharius Pendragon!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barabas displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pendragon.
Barabas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Zacharius Pendragon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Barabas closes the distance and pushes Pendragon back into the cage.
Barabas keeps control of Pendragon as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Pendragon tries to circle away but Barabas has him pinned against the cage.
Barabas wants to take the fight to the mat but Pendragon manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Pendragon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Barabas works Pendragon's body with a nice hook.
Pendragon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Barabas circles away.
Pendragon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Barabas sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pendragon somewhat.
Zulu Barabas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zacharius Pendragon.

Barabas looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Pendragon!
Barabas working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pendragon tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pendragon is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Barabas asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Barabas wants to control but Pendragon is keeping him busy.
Pendragon is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Barabas is controlling him well.
Barabas is looking to take a break and control but Pendragon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pendragon wants to control but Barabas postures up.
Barabas wants to stand but Pendragon is controlling his arm.
Barabas tries to advance to mount but Pendragon denies him.
Barabas trying to control the action but Pendragon is working from the bottom.
Pendragon sneaks back into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Barabas prevents Pendragon from improving his position.
Pendragon pushes Barabas off looking to stand but Barabas dives back in and keeps control.

Pendragon looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Pendragon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Barabas is pressing down on Pendragon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pendragon is holding on for now.
Barabas is looking to take a break and control but Pendragon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pendragon makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Barabas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pendragon's waist but Pendragon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Barabas off to one side.
Pendragon moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Barabas shoots in and bounces Pendragon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Barabas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Barabas throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pendragon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Pendragon is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Barabas defends well.

Pendragon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Barabas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Pendragon is tightening it up a little... Barabas has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Barabas reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Barabas taps out! Nice BJJ there by Pendragon!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Zacharius Pendragon!
