Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Hersha! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pari An! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! An looks to score with a jab to the body but Hersha is just out of range. An with a lazy takedown attempt and Hersha counters by moving into the clinch. Hersha lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Hersha is nestled in close to An, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. An looks winded! Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hersha in particular looking to stall. Hersha stands up from half guard. An on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hersha shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hersha showed some decent athleticism there. Hersha not doing much here.
Hersha is nestled in close to An, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hersha is figuring out what he wants to do next. Hersha wants to pass to mount but An is defending the position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Hersha trying to control the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Greg Hersha. Hersha shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches An napping and manages to drive through into side control! Hersha is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but An is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hersha in side control, just content to control the action for now. Hersha working the ground and pound from side control. Hersha decides to stand back up. Hersha steps back and let's An get back to his feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A head kick misses from Hersha. Hersha clinches with his opponent.
Hersha's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's three minutes gone in the round. An tries to sprawl but Hersha drives through with a takedown into half guard. Hersha is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Hersha is controlling the pace.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hersha has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Greg Hersha just wasn't active enough. Hersha misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hersha clinches up with An and pushes him back against the cage. Hersha gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, An regains guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hersha stands and steps away. An gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Hersha buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Hersha closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into An's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Greg Hersha dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Hersha explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. An stuffs the takedown attempt from Hersha. Hersha gets slowly back to his feet. Hersha changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. An looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. A lull in the action here as Hersha stalls from top position. Greg Hersha overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hersha decides to stand back up. Hersha steps back and let's An get back to his feet. An is breathing heavily. A momentary lapse in concentration from An enables Hersha to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. An manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Hersha is looking to work some ground and pound but An has wrist control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hersha wants to control from the top but An keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hersha decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Hersha shoots in for a double leg but An sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Hersha clinches. Hersha escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hersha lands a nice shot that snaps An's head back.
Hersha clinches. Hersha jumps into guard, dragging An to the mat.
Hersha is trying to keep An in close.
Hersha scrambles and gets back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fight moves into the clinch position. Hersha pulls An into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hersha looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hersha looking for a guillotine here but An defends easily.
Hersha has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but An can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hersha is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. An stays in close to Hersha's body and controls the position. Hersha has control of An's left arm, preventing An from doing any damage. Hersha looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hersha wants to sweep here but An controlling him for the moment. An would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. An preventing the sweep. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hersha trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! An trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Hersha is looking to cinch up a triangle. An throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Hersha's body to avoid the submission. Hersha has instead reached around An's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Hersha arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
