Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kurt Averson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ricky Quispel! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quispel shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Averson is trying to defend but Quispel finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Averson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Averson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Averson looking for submissions off his back. Averson wants to get back to full guard. Quispel working over Averson with some ground and pound. Averson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Quispel seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Averson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. It looks like Quispel is going to stand back up.
Averson wants to control but Quispel is keeping busy and won't allow it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Quispel is trying to control. Averson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Averson is trying to maintain the position but Quispel is very close to passing his half guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ricky Quispel. Quispel darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Quispel is trying to control. Averson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Averson has hold of Quispel's hands but Quispel slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Averson trying to control here.
Averson wants to get back to full guard. Quispel throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Averson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Quispel pulls his head out easily. Quispel slips a nice elbow through Averson's hands, connecting with Averson's forehead. Quispel is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Averson is looking for a sweep. Quispel is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Quispel stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Averson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Quispel napping and manages to drive through into side control! Averson in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Quispel is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kurt Averson! Kurt Averson retains his light heavyweight title!
