Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jared Scalf! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Sloggett! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Sloggett missing with a left hand there. Scalf was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Sloggett throws a shot from downtown. Scalf moves away and avoids it. Sloggett darts in trying to clinch and Scalf counters with a left and a right that stings Sloggett. Sloggett throws out a loose jab but Scalf uses good head movement to avoid it. Nice sprawl there from Sloggett as Scalf shoots in. Sloggett wants to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sloggett fails with a takedown attempt. Sloggett wants to clinch up but Scalf keeps it at a distance. Nice shot by Sloggett.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sloggett wants to clinch. Sloggett misses with a hook. Scalf shoots in looking for a takedown but Sloggett manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Scalf's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Scalf shoots for a takedown but Sloggett saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jared Scalf. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Scalf shoots in but no luck this time. Sloggett throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Scalf staying out of range there. Sloggett throws a shot from downtown. Scalf moves away and avoids it. Sloggett fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Scalf moves away from the strike by Sloggett.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Scalf drops his hands momentarily and Sloggett takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Sloggett lands with an overhand left. Sloggett moves in looking to clinch but Scalf pushes him off. Scalf instigates a clinch. Sloggett is trying to force a seperation but Scalf has the dominant position. Sloggett on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Scalf stalls. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sean Sloggett dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Sloggett misses with a head kick.
Sloggett might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Sloggett misses with a two punch combination.
Scalf slips a jab and a cross from Sloggett.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Scalf shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sloggett but Sloggett pushes him off and we're back to square one. Sloggett slaps away a takedown attempt from Scalf, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sloggett misses the jab. Sloppy strikes from Sloggett. Those never looked like landing. Sloggett misses with a hook
and Scalf counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Scalf tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A nice glancing elbow lands by Scalf. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Scalf. Sloggett has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Scalf tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Sloggett is pressed up against the cage. Scalf has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sloggett down to the mat. Sloggett avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jared Scalf. That's going to take a lot out of him. The fighters circling - Sloggett throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Scalf tries to clinch but Sloggett moves out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sloggett leaves Scalf with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Jared Scalf is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Scalf is looking to clinch but Sloggett is avoiding it.
Sloggett fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Scalf dives in and grabs Sloggett's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sloggett pushes down on Scalf's head and hops out. Sloggett throws a right and a left that Scalf avoids nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sloggett jabbing away but nothing is landing. Sean Sloggett seems to be getting the better of the standup. Scalf shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sloggett manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Scalf working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Sloggett uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Sloggett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Sloggett throws a looping overhand right but Scalf ducks down to avoid it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Jared Scalf will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Sloggett tries to clinch there but Scalf circles away.
A combination from Sloggett does no damage. Scalf stuffs the takedown. Sloggett misses with a hook
and Scalf counters with a nice kick to the body. Sloggett tries to clinch up. Sloggett thuds his right hand into Scalf's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
It looks like Jared Scalf has been cut. Sloggett defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Scalf.
That's one minute gone in the round. Scalf gets the takedown into side control. Scalf tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Scalf has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Scalf will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Scalf is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sloggett is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Scalf is putting a hurting on Sloggett here, landing some big shots from side control. Scalf fails to land a wild elbow strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Scalf goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Sloggett rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Scalf's guard! Nice work there by Sloggett! Sloggett wants to stand and escape but instead Scalf has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Scalf's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Scalf has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Scalf throwing strikes from guard but Sloggett blocks nicely. Scalf drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sloggett looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sloggett looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sloggett!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sloggett working away. Scalf is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sloggett is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Scalf is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Scalf is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sloggett's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Scalf wants to control but Sloggett is keeping busy and won't allow it. Scalf is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Sloggett fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Jared Scalf showed his dominance in that final round. I think Scalf has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
