The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch lands to the side of MacDonald 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Zica misses with a lunging right hand
and MacDonald counters with a single leg into guard. Zica didn't expect that.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
MacDonald is looking to work some ground and pound but Zica has wrist control.
Zica keeping moving, preventing MacDonald from controlling successfully.
MacDonald postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
MacDonald looking to sit in guard and control but Zica gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

MacDonald has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Zica is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for MacDonald.

Peppu Reiska MacDonald overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

MacDonald is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
MacDonald is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. MacDonald gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. MacDonald gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. MacDonald apologises and we restart here on the feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
