PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kaito Saruwatari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alejandro Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saruwatari comes into the arena with Guerilla Radio blaring out of the sound system. Zapata has chosen Tres Delinquentes as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaito Saruwatari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alejandro Zapata!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saruwatari fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Saruwatari tries to keep at a distance but Zapata has taken the fight into the clinch.
Saruwatari takes a shot to the head.
Saruwatari throws a punch but it's blocked by Zapata.
Zapata can't find room to land a body shot as Saruwatari controls the action.
Zapata lands a shot to the body.

Saruwatari escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zapata shoots in for a takedown but Saruwatari shows good takedown defense.
A nice leg kick lands there from Zapata.
A shot to the liver by Zapata. Beautiful body shot.
Zapata swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Saruwatari looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Zapata fails with a takedown attempt.
Saruwatari misses with a hook
and Zapata counters with a good low kick that Saruwatari was not able to check.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zapata swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Zapata looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Saruwatari!
Saruwatari is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Zapata is controlling him well.
Saruwatari is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Zapata's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Zapata seems to be looking for submissions.
Saruwatari is trying to control but can't.
Zapata working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Saruwatari has hold of Zapata's hands but Zapata slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Saruwatari wants to get back to his feet.
Zapata is nestled in close to Saruwatari, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Zapata throwing shots but Saruwatari is blocking nicely.

Zapata is looking for a kimura here.

Zapata wants to work for an arm triangle but Saruwatari is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Zapata works his way into side control.
Saruwatari sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Saruwatari moves into full guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Saruwatari not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zapata wants to pass the guard but Saruwatari is keeping the position.
Saruwatari wants to sweep but no luck.
Saruwatari keeping moving, preventing Zapata from controlling successfully.
Saruwatari is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Zapata trying to control the position from guard on top but Saruwatari is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Saruwatari takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.


It looks like Kaito Saruwatari has been cut.
Zapata takes a swing at Saruwatari's ribcage but misses.
Saruwatari throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Zapata instigates a clinch.
Saruwatari blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Zapata lands a nice shot to the body.
Saruwatari wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Zapata lands an elbow just above Saruwatari 's eye.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Still in the clinch, Zapata scores with a nice short uppercut.
Zapata lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Zapata utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Saruwatari is breathing heavily.
Saruwatari misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Zapata has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Saruwatari regains guard immediately.
Zapata has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Zapata pushing down on Saruwatari's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Zapata seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Zapata slips a nice elbow through Saruwatari's hands, connecting with Saruwatari's forehead.

Zapata is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Saruwatari doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Zapata.

Zapata seems to be working for a kimura but Saruwatari defends the submission attempt.

Zapata in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Saruwatari tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Zapata!
