PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Konsta Pylkkanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John Smith was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Konsta Pylkkanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Daniel Bishop and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pylkkanen gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith is trying to control Pylkkanen's posture but Pylkkanen avoids it.
Pylkkanen with the ground and pound but Smith regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Pylkkanen is working for a kimura but Smith is defending it quite comfortably.
Pylkkanen is looking to advance position but Smith won't allow it.
Smith wants to get back to full guard but Pylkkanen has mounted him!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pylkkanen throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Smith reaches up and holds on to Pylkkanen to control the position.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pylkkanen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pylkkanen is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Smith has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Smith!
Smith wants to pass the guard but Pylkkanen is keeping the position.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Pylkkanen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Pylkkanen trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Pylkkanen from controlling successfully.
Pylkkanen connects with a couple of short punches.
Pylkkanen throwing strikes but missing.
Pylkkanen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smith is trying to keep Pylkkanen in close.
Pylkkanen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Pylkkanen trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Pylkkanen looking to pass the guard.
Pylkkanen advances position into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith tries to buck Pylkkanen off but Pylkkanen is having none of it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.
Smith keeps trying to improve his position.
Smith is not content to let Pylkkanen control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pylkkanen has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Smith!

Pylkkanen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Smith is surviving well by controlling Pylkkanen's body position as best he can.
Smith holds on to Pylkkanen as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Smith defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Pylkkanen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Konsta Pylkkanen dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Pylkkanen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Smith misses with a leg kick
and Pylkkanen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Pylkkanen drops Smith with a beautiful combination! Smith stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Pylkkanen is looking for the KO!


Smith is rocked!


It looks like John Smith has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pylkkanen tries to bum rush Smith with a series of wild strikes but Smith uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Pylkkanen moves out of range of the body kick.
Smith slips a jab from Pylkkanen.
Konsta Pylkkanen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pylkkanen fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith walks into a straight right hand from Pylkkanen.
Pylkkanen stuns Smith with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Smith avoids the body shot from Pylkkanen.
Pylkkanen misses with the combination.
Pylkkanen connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Pylkkanen tries to clinch
and Smith counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Konsta Pylkkanen has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith drops Pylkkanen with a left right combo! Smith follows him down to the ground into side control.


Pylkkanen is rocked!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith working the head and body with strikes.
Oh Pylkkanen is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pylkkanen sneaks back into half guard.
Smith passes to side control.
Pylkkanen seems to have got his legs back now.
Pylkkanen is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Smith off and has taken his back!

Pylkkanen tightening his grip on Smith, looking for the choke.

Pylkkanen patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Smith is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pylkkanen is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Smith is tapping out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Konsta Pylkkanen!
Konsta Pylkkanen decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
