PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ludwig Mandrill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mandrill comes to the cage accompanied by Luigi's song. Alvarez has chosen Killa Sharks as his entrance music. Mike Alvarez is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ludwig Mandrill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mandrill is fending him off so far but Alvarez persists. Nope, Mandrill circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Alvarez is defended easily by Mandrill.
Mike Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mandrill gets caught flat footed, as Alvarez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Alvarez wants to pass the guard but Mandrill is keeping the position.

Mandrill bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Alvarez is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mandrill off and has taken his back!

Mandrill knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alvarez on the ground.

Mandrill manages to reverse the position and now he's in Alvarez's guard. Nice work there by Mandrill.
Alvarez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mandrill is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mandrill sprawls well. Mandrill wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alvarez gets slowly back to his feet.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mandrill connects with a nice short shot to Alvarez's temple.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mike Alvarez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Alvarez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
