Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
25 - 13 - 1, fighting out of New York, Zachery Rey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oscar Salcedo! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Kavanagh and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Salcedo misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Rey counters with a thumping low kick. Salcedo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Rey counters with a nice body shot. Rey throws a low kick but it's checked well by Salcedo. Salcedo throws a sloppy body shot
and Rey counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. A telegraphed right hand from Rey misses the target. Rey works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Salcedo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rey sprawls well initially but Salcedo persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Rey avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Salcedo. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rey tries to get to full guard but Salcedo has control of the leg. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Salcedo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Rey keeps control of the position for the meantime. Rey doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Jab, jab by Salcedo - just one landing. Salcedo scores with a takedown into Rey's guard. Rey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Salcedo on the ground. Salcedo chips away with some ground and pound. Salcedo with a flurry of punches that miss. Rey is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Salcedo is controlling him. Salcedo stands and throws Rey's legs to the side, diving into side control. Salcedo throwing shots but missing, from side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Salcedo landing a few strikes. Rey takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Rey wants to control but Salcedo postures up. Rey is not content to let Salcedo control the position. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Salcedo in side control lands a decent elbow. Rey can't do much from the bottom here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Oscar Salcedo dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Good standup being displayed there by Salcedo as he connects with a hook. Rey shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Salcedo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Salcedo misses the jab. Rey slips a jab from Salcedo. Rey lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Salcedo uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rey has time to react. Rey misses with a body kick. Salcedo pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Salcedo has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Salcedo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Salcedo scores with a jab to the body. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rey works over Salcedo's head and body with a nice combination.
It looks like Oscar Salcedo has been cut. Rey keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Salcedo. Salcedo pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Salcedo checks a low kick from Rey.
That's one minute gone in the round. Salcedo gets cracked there but stands up to it.
