PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Godard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has chosen ''More Human Than Human'' by White Zombie as his entrance music. Darren Smith told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Eric Godard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darren Smith!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jonathan Paton and John Kavanagh.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Godard looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but Godard persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith feints and then cracks Godard's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Godard down.
Godard shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Godard moves out of range of the body kick.
Some bone on bone action there as Godard checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Smith throws a leg kick but Godard checks it.
Godard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Godard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Godard. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Godard fails with the takedown.
A chopping leg kick lands by Smith.
Godard is breathing heavily.
Smith misses with a wild body shot.
Smith throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Godard takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith is landing with some decent strikes but Godard is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

It looks like Eric Godard has been cut.
Smith scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Godard?
Smith pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Smith trying to control but Godard is having none of it.
Smith postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Godard looks a forlorn figure.
