PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Slopey Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Armand Agasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Smith might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Jawga Boyz - Rollin Like A Redneck. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Slopey Smith!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Armand Agasi!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Agasi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Agasi misses with a lunging right hand

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Smith is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Agasi blocking the ground and pound attempt from Smith.
Smith throwing shots but Agasi is blocking nicely.
Agasi wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Agasi is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Agasi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Smith wants to pass to mount but Agasi is defending the position.

Smith blocks the strikes from Agasi.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smith connects with a nice short shot to Agasi's temple.

Agasi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily.
Smith moves nicely into side control.
Smith lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Agasi is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control.
The strikes coming from Smith are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Smith trying to control the position but Agasi is working away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Agasi is trying to get back to half guard.

Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Agasi has escaped the position, nice work there.
Agasi is looking for a sweep.
Smith grinds an elbow into Agasi's temple.
Agasi can't do much from the bottom here.
Smith working the head and body with strikes.
Agasi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Agasi sneaks back into half guard.
Smith working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Smith is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Smith wants to pass to mount but Agasi is defending the position.
Agasi wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.

Smith is looking to take a break and control but Agasi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Smith takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Agasi wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Agasi controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slopey Smith dominated that round.

Agasi swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Smith cracks the inside of Agasi's front leg.
Agasi misses with an uppercut.
Agasi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Agasi takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Danga de danga de dang - Agasi scores with a four punch combination!
Smith walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Agasi lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Agasi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Smith napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Agasi working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith manages to work his way to half guard, despite Agasi's best efforts.
Smith tries to roll over but Agasi keeps him under control.

Agasi lands strikes from half guard.
Slopey Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Agasi drops an elbow to the side of Smith's head.
Smith is looking for a sweep. Agasi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Smith works his way to full guard. Good work.
Agasi works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard.

Smith has his foot on Agasi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Agasi works his way back into a safe position though.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Agasi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Agasi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Agasi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Agasi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Agasi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Agasi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Agasi keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Smith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Agasi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Smith working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Smith fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Smith cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Agasi takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Agasi is still in real trouble! Can Smith finish him?
Smith postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Agasi in real trouble here! The ref calls for Agasi to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Slopey Smith!
Slopey Smith retains his middleweight title!
A relieved looking Slopey Smith thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
