PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trey Stout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bearded Clam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clam has chosen Filthy Christmas as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trey Stout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bearded Clam!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clam blocks a head kick by Stout.
Stout stuffs the takedown.
Clam closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stout circles away.
Stout lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Clam at a distance.
Clam shoots in but Stout avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Trey Stout has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bearded Clam.

Clam gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Stout has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Clam looking for a sweep. Not yet Clam, not yet.
Stout in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Stout passes into half guard.
Clam gets back to full guard.
Clam manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stout manages to get himself to full guard.
Clam is pushing down on Stout's leg trying to pass to half guard. Stout is fighting to maintain full guard but Clam has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stout is breathing heavily.
Clam is pressing down on Stout's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stout is holding on for now.

Clam is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Clam uses his free foot to push down on Stout's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Stout.
Stout is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Clam jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Stout manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Clam is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Stout knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Clam looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Stout throws up a few punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stout prevents Clam from improving position.
Stout regains half guard.
Stout makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stout.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Clam pushing down on Stout's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Clam is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stout doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Clam.

Clam is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stout wants to get back to his feet.
Clam has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Clam looking for a guillotine from mount but Stout is having none of it.

Clam goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Stout turns into him and now he's in Clam's guard.

Clam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stout doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stout manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Stout won't allow Clam to sweep him here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stout wants to stand but Clam has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Clam had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Stout is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Clam Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Stout's back instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bearded Clam dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Clam misses with a takedown attempt

and Stout counters with a takedown into side control.
Clam sneaks back into half guard.
Stout prevents Clam from improving his position.

Stout stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Clam to get to his feet.
Stout scores with a nice body kick.
Clam shoots and misses
and Stout connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Clam drives through with a takedown into guard.
Clam passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Clam looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Clam thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Clam tries to move into full mount but can't pass Stout's legs.
You can see the frustration on Stout's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stout tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Clam tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Clam has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Clam is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Stout has escaped the position, nice work there.

Clam tries for a kimura but Stout is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stout is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Clam is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Stout is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Stout prevents Clam from improving position.

Clam wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Stout, who protects the arm well.
Stout is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Stout tries to buck Clam off but Clam is having none of it.

Clam advances to mount.
Stout slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Clam is pressing down on Stout's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stout is holding on for now.

Clam is looking for a kimura but Stout is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Clam to get the leverage.
Stout missing with punches from the bottom.

Clam seems to be looking for submissions.

Clam wants to work for an arm triangle but Stout is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bearded Clam has got the better of the ground game so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stout is looking to escape.
Stout is in trouble now - Clam has advanced to mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bearded Clam showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Clam closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Clam working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Clam has hold of Stout's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Stout seems comfortable defending it but Clam has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Stout is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Stout is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Clam couldn't care less - he's delighted!
