1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Michal Nowak! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! StPierre lands a big head kick that sends Nowak tumbling to the mat! StPierre takes a step backwards and waves Nowak back to his feet - he wants the finish! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Nowak shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as StPierre sprawls well. StPierre wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nowak gets slowly back to his feet. Nowak tries to sprawl but StPierre drives through with a takedown into half guard. StPierre keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Nowak has hold of StPierre's hands but StPierre slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. StPierre not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. StPierre controlling the action here. StPierre is working for a kimura but Nowak is defending it quite comfortably.

Nowak is desperately trying to improve his position but StPierre has a good base and remains in mount. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! StPierre landing punches. Georges StPierre overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. StPierre postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Nowak looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Nowak taking shots to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nowak gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows StPierre to score an easy takedown into full guard. Nowak trying to keep a closed guard but StPierre is proving a slippery customer.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Nowak is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent. StPierre tries to hold on but Nowak pushes him away. StPierre knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nowak on the ground.
