Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexandr Tarkovsky!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marshall Artz!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Artz slips under a jab from Tarkovsky.
Tarkovsky bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Artz's head.
Tarkovsky throws an ugly left hook that misses

so Artz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Tarkovsky is trying to control the position but Artz postures up.
Tarkovsky preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Tarkovsky looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Artz with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Artz connects with a couple of short punches.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Artz scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Tarkovsky bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Artz's guard.
Artz throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Artz can do anything to dispel that myth.
Tarkovsky looking to pass the guard.
Tarkovsky wants to control from the top but Artz keeps moving.
Artz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tarkovsky is one step ahead there.

Artz working for a triangle but Tarkovsky defends it easily.

Tarkovsky pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Artz is keeping the position for now.
Artz can't keep his opponent in guard - Tarkovsky advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Tarkovsky trying to control from half guard but Artz is working away.

Tarkovsky is trying to work for a kimura but Artz is defending well.
Artz wants to improve his position but Tarkovsky is controlling well.

Tarkovsky looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Artz throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Tarkovsky seems to be looking for submissions.
Artz is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Tarkovsky jumps into side control!
Artz is not content to let Tarkovsky control the position.

Tarkovsky is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Artz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Artz is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Tarkovsky is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Tarkovsky prevents Artz from getting the reversal.
Tarkovsky wants to control the pace but Artz is squirming around nicely.
Artz tries to hold on but Tarkovsky postures up.

Tarkovsky looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Tarkovsky trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tarkovsky avoids the attempt from Artz to control.

Tarkovsky is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Artz to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Artz shrugs it off.

Tarkovsky has isolated one of Artz's arms. Artz looking to fight him off but Tarkovsky twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alexandr Tarkovsky!

A relieved looking Alexandr Tarkovsky thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
