Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ello Mate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dr James Andrews! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mate tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Andrews swivels and escapes. Andrews looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! A big right from Andrews misses. Mate misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Andrews digs a good body shot into Mate's ribs. Mate misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ello Mate. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mate takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Andrews scores with a sloppy right hand. Mate should have avoided that one. Andrews should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Andrews rushes Mate and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Mate is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Mate breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Mate will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mate moves in looking to clinch but Andrews pushes him off. Andrews lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Andrews. Mate shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Andrews really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mate. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Andrews keeping moving, preventing Mate from controlling successfully.

Andrews is wriggling around but Mate manages to pass to half guard.
Mate wants to take a breather but Andrews is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mate prevents Andrews from improving his position. Mate prevents Andrews from standing back up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mate lands a nice short elbow. Mate is looking for a kimura here.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Andrews scores with a body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Andrews cracks Mate with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Mate misses with a low kick.
Andrews sizes up Mate with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Andrews lands a slapping body shot.
Mate takes one to the chin there. Andrews scores with a decent looking hook. Mate clinches up with Andrews and pushes him back against the cage. Andrews is pressed up against the cage. Mate has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Andrews down to the mat. Andrews avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Mate takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Andrews scores with a jab. Mate acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Mate drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Andrews takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Andrews wants to get back to his feet but Mate drags him back down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Andrews gets back to half guard. Mate stops Andrews from getting back to his feet.
Mate stands up out of the half guard. Andrews smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Mate looks for a takedown but Andrews sprawls well. Andrews ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Dr James Andrews is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mate feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Mate trying to control but Andrews is working from the bottom. Andrews pushes Mate off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Andrews scores with a jab.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A decent looking body kick lands there for Mate. Andrews looks to score with a jab to the body but Mate is just out of range. Andrews throws out a loose jab but Mate uses good head movement to avoid it. Mate shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Andrews misses with a wild combination.
Mate fails to land the takedown. Andrews getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Dr James Andrews seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mate looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Andrews uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Andrews lands a really nice looking cross but Mate seems unphased.
No luck for Mate with that takedown attempt. Mate clinches. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ello Mate will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Andrews bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Andrews swats away the attempt to clinch by Mate. Andrews works over Mate's head and body with a nice combination. Andrews stuffs the takedown attempt from Mate. Mate gets slowly back to his feet. Andrews uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mate. Mate tries to clinch up. Mate tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Mate shoots in but no luck this time. Andrews uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Mate has time to react. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Andrews lands an overhand right. Andrews moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Andrews lands with an overhand left. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Andrews scores with a nice head shot. A cross from Andrews lands.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mate takes a body punch but keeps moving. Andrews fails to land with a series of punches.
Danga de danga de dang - Andrews scores with a four punch combination! Ello Mate is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A leg kick checked by Mate. Mate lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Andrews scores with a nice strike. Andrews gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Andrews is working an open guard so Mate takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Mate clinches with his opponent.

Mate has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Andrews finds it's way round the side to connect with Mate's head. Andrews swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mate throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Andrews's waist but Andrews gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mate off to one side. Jab by Andrews. Mate takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. The fight stays on the outside here - Mate looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Mate tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Andrews swivels and escapes. Andrews throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Mate attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Mate tries to close the distance and clinch up but Andrews swats him away and circles back towards the center. Andrews connects with a body shot. Mate fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Mate has a takedown stuffed. A slow jab from Andrews misses its intended target. Mate looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. A low kick from Andrews is predictable there and Mate counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Andrews! Mate wants to control the pace but Andrews is squirming around nicely. Andrews is trying to escape the mount.
Andrews wants to try and get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ello Mate dominated that second round. That's time! Mate's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Mate closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Andrews to the mat! Andrews manages to get full guard. Mate forces his way into half guard. Andrews tries to kick Mate off but Mate keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Mate is keen to just control but Andrews is a slippery customer. Mate looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Andrews with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Andrews looks like he's trying to stand up.
Mate works his way into side control. Mate advances nicely into full mount. Mate lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mate controlling the pace for now. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mate jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Andrews manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mate trying to control the position but Andrews is working away. Andrews is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mate has just dragged him back down to the mat. Mate is looking to take a break and control but Andrews is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Mate sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Andrews is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Andrews is trying to buck Mate off.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Mate tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Jab from Andrews. Mate takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Mate shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Mate closes this distance looking for a takedown but Andrews circles away. Mate has Andrews up against the cage in a clinch.

A slow jab from Andrews misses its intended target. Mate shoots for a double leg takedown but Andrews sprawls well. He's pushed Mate's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Mate keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Andrews. Good shot there by Andrews.

Mate takes one to the chin there. Mate shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Andrews but Andrews pushes him off and we're back to square one. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Andrews, as that shot connected.

Andrews looks to land a left hand but Mate moved out of range nicely. Mate thows a body kick. Andrews tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Andrews connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Mate's hands. Mate throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. Andrews looks to land a combination but Mate avoids it well. Andrews lands with a nice body punch. Mate shoots in but no luck this time. Mate shoots in but no luck this time. Mate tries to clinch but Andrews is having none of it. Andrews tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mate swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mate closes the distance and clinches up with Andrews, looking for a takedown. Mate pushes Andrews against the cage but Andrews circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Mate staying out of range there.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ello Mate. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mate, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
