The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puig fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Gomes looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

It looks like Anderson Gomes has been cut.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Oooooh!!! Puig has knocked Gomes down with a huge combo! Puig steps away and waves a wobbly Gomes back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

The fighters circle momentarily. Puig darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Anderson Gomes's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

Puig slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Puig throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Gomes colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Puig as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Gomes is left battered and dazed whilst Puig and his camp cheer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Yasiel Puig! Yasiel Puig retains his light heavyweight title!
After the fight, Yasiel Puig was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
