Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pete Murphy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Johnny Kerr! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Murphy looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Murphy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Murphy is looking to clinch but Kerr is avoiding it.
Murphy shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kerr as he jumps to the side. Murphy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kerr is fending him off so far but Murphy persists. Nope, Kerr circles away and we're back to standing. Murphy tries to clinch but Kerr is having none of it. Kerr swats away the attempt to clinch by Murphy. Murphy darts in trying to clinch and Kerr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Murphy's guard. Kerr tries to free his leg and advance position but Murphy is retaining full guard. Murphy controls Kerr momentarily but Kerr frees himself. Murphy looking for a sweep. Not yet Murphy, not yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kerr drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Murphy manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kerr has Murphy in his guard. Kerr had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Murphy defends it easily. Murphy chips away with some ground and pound. Murphy missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Kerr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Murphy defends well. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Murphy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kerr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Murphy has managed to get both his arms back between Kerr's legs - danger averted. Murphy trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kerr's guard. Kerr looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Murphy connects with a couple of short punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kerr is looking for a triangle but Murphy pushes his legs off easily.
Murphy cracks Kerr with a solid left hand. Kerr avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Murphy throws a big elbow that misses. Kerr working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Murphy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Kerr is tightening it up a little... Murphy has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Murphy reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Murphy taps out! Nice BJJ there by Kerr!
