The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damia blocks a leg kick.
Whipple misses with a takedown

and Damia counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Damia tries to pass the half guard into mount. Whipple knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Damia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Whipple keeps working.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Corvo Damia wasn't active enough on the ground.

It looks like Corvo Damia has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Damia has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Whipple.
You can see the frustration on Whipple's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Damia is persistently looking for the submission but Whipple is defending it well.
Damia is looking to control Whipple but Whipple is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Damia throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Whipple!

Corvo Damia dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

No luck for Damia with that takedown attempt.

Damia closes the distance and clinches up with Whipple, looking for a takedown. Damia pushes Whipple against the cage but Whipple circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Damia is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Damia lands a couple of digs.

Damia is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Whipple has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Damia is looking to defend but Whipple has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Damia! Whipple pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Damia taps out and this one is all over!
