Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fidel Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Philip Go!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Go shoots in and gets a takedown into Mendez's guard.
Go being controlled here momentarily.
Go is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Go wanted to stand there but Mendez had control of the position.
Mendez wants to sweep here but Go controlling him for the moment.
Go trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mendez looking for a sweep. Not yet Mendez, not yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mendez avoids the body shot from Go.
Mendez is looking to score with low kicks.

Mendez drives through with a takedown into guard.
Go is trying to control the position but Mendez postures up.
Mendez trying to control but Go is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Go is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Go is looking for a kimura here.
Mendez wants to improve his position but Go is controlling well.
Mendez is looking to escape.
Go trying to control from half guard but Mendez is working away.
Mendez tries to get to full guard but Go has control of the leg.

Mendez is trying to control but Go passes into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez is looking to regain half guard here but Go keeps moving and retains side control.
Mendez holds on to Go's head and controls the position momentarily.
Go wants to stand but Mendez is controlling his arm.
Mendez struggling a bit here.
Mendez is trying to get back to half guard.
Mendez tries to control but Go manages to take his back.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Go's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Go lands shots from the back.
Mendez looking very determined here, making life difficult for Go.
Mendez is trying to stand back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Go tries to keep control of the position but Mendez is staying busy.
Go is hanging on to Mendez's back as he tries to escape.
Mendez trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Go trying to control momentarily.
Mendez wants to escape the position.

Go looking for the choke from the back.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A lull in the action here.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Go.
Mendez is taking damage to the body and head.

Go looking for the RNC.

Mendez is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mendez is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Philip Go dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Mendez drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Go manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Go wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendez keeps working.

Go is trying for a kimura here. Mendez looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Go wins by kimura!
