Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Dirt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
23 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Ferguson! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dirt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Ferguson shoots in for a takedown but Dirt shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Dirt decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Ferguson preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Ferguson regains full guard. Nicely done. Dirt drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ferguson dives on top into guard. Dirt is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ferguson defends well. Ferguson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ferguson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dirt knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Ferguson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dirt has escaped the position, nice work there. Dirt regains half guard there - taking advantage of Ferguson's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ferguson sitting and controlling from the half guard. Ferguson looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ferguson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Dirt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ferguson on the ground. Ferguson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Ferguson trying to control but Dirt is having none of it. Ferguson raining down hammerfists from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dirt takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Ferguson looking to control and managing it successfully. Ferguson lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Dirt is squirming around, avoiding Ferguson's attempts to control the action. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ferguson goes for an armbar but Dirt turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Dirt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Josh Ferguson dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Dirt throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ferguson counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Dirt is lucky that one didn't land flush. Ferguson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Ferguson sitting in guard, not really doing much. Ferguson trying to control but Dirt is working from the bottom. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Ferguson. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Josh Ferguson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Ferguson closes the distance and clinches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ferguson breaks the clinch.
Ferguson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Dirt wants to clinch but Ferguson slips to the side enabling Ferguson to counter with a crisp jab. Ferguson looking to score a takedown here. Dirt is defending well but Ferguson drives through and ends up in Dirt's guard. Ferguson wants to stand but Dirt is controlling his posture from full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ferguson is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Dirt has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Ferguson is looking to defend but Dirt has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Ferguson! Dirt pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Ferguson taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Joe Dirt!
