Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Dempsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiko Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Who Let the Dawgs Out - Baha Men kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Kiko Mendez has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jack Dempsey's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jack Dempsey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kiko Mendez! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dempsey defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mendez. Dempsey shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Mendez eats them both and turns towards Dempsey to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Dempsey drops Mendez with a right and a left! Dempsey comes rushing in but Mendez regains his composure and manages to keep Dempsey in guard.
It looks like Kiko Mendez has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Mendez is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Dempsey trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Dempsey avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mendez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Dempsey wants to pass the guard but Mendez is keeping the position. Dempsey won't allow Mendez to sweep him here. Dempsey controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Mendez has his foot on Dempsey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dempsey works his way back into a safe position though. Dempsey avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mendez looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Dempsey is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Mendez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dempsey manages to get himself to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mendez passes easily into side control. Nice work. Mendez postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Mendez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dempsey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Mendez has hold of Dempsey's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Dempsey tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Mendez cranks the arm and Dempsey screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Dempsey, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Kiko Mendez! A relieved looking Kiko Mendez thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
