Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tonothan Kuhula (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Al Shaffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kuhula comes to the cage accompanied by Native Drums from the South Pacific. The crowd seem to be enjoying Shaffer's choice of entrance music: Midnight At The Oasis by Maria Muldaur. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kuhula missing with a left hand there. Shaffer was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kuhula lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Al Shaffer has been cut.
Shaffer uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kuhula.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Kuhula takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Kuhula throws a right hand that Shaffer ducks under and follows up with a left that Shaffer also avoids with ease.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shaffer is looking to work some ground and pound but Kuhula has wrist control.
Shaffer should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Shaffer throws a big elbow that misses.
Shaffer wants to pass the guard but Kuhula is keeping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Tonothan Kuhula.
Kuhula's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Shaffer connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Kuhula scrambles back to his feet.

and Shaffer counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shaffer wants to free his trapped foot but Kuhula is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Kuhula on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kuhula tries to get out of the position.
Shaffer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kuhula knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Al Shaffer will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A jab from Shaffer does it's job there.
Kuhula swings for the body but Shaffer moves out of range.
Shaffer takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Tonothan Kuhula seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Shaffer shoots for a double leg takedown but Kuhula sprawls well. He's pushed Shaffer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shaffer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kuhula is fending him off so far but Shaffer persists. Nope, Kuhula circles away and we're back to standing.

Kuhula lands a big uppercut and Shaffer crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Shaffer looks OK. Kuhula waves Shaffer back to his feet!


Shaffer is rocked!


That has opened up Al Shaffer's cut even more.
Kuhula throws a shot from downtown. Shaffer moves away and avoids it.
A big left from Kuhula misses.
Kuhula swings and misses with a hook to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kuhula fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Shaffer to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Shaffer looks to clinch but Kuhula throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Shaffer taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Tonothan Kuhula!
