5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Renald! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Renald moves to clinch but Hopkins breaks away and Hopkins counters with a shoot takedown. Renald fights it but they end up in guard. Hopkins preventing the sweep. Hopkins trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Renald is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hopkins is aware though and is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hopkins throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Renald works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Hopkins with a nice head shot there. Renald wants to sweep but no luck. Renald throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Hopkins has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Renald looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Renald looking for a guillotine here but Hopkins defends easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hopkins lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Hopkins lands some shots froms side control. Renald on the wrong end of some ground and pound. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Renald is looking to reverse the position. Hopkins cracks Renald with an elbow. That is naaassty. Renald is looking to reverse the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
JD Hopkins dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Renald tries to clinch but Hopkins moves out of range. Renald changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hopkins tries to avoid it but Renald manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hopkins to the ground. Hopkins escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hopkins forces Renald back against the cage and clinches. Hopkins has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Renald regains guard immediately. Hopkins postures up and lands a big shot to Renald's brow. Hopkins slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Renald looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hopkins passes into side control.
