Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Val Kem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Layne Staley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Staley has chosen The Rooster as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Val Kem! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Layne Staley! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kem shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Staley counters with a solid body kick. Kem shoots and misses and Staley counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Staley has managed to clinch.
Kem is trying to force a seperation but Staley has the dominant position. Staley pulls Kem into guard.
Kem wants to stand but Staley is controlling his posture from full guard. Staley is adopting a defensive guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Staley has a closed guard, preventing Kem from standing up.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Layne Staley. Kem tries for a takedown but Staley circles away easily and Staley counters with a nice body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Val Kem. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kem with a poor takedown and Staley counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kem thinking. Staley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Staley gets a double leg takedown into Kem's guard. Staley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kem. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kem being controlled here, momentarily. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Staley scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Staley sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Layne Staley was stalling too much, according to the referee. Kem shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Staley counters with an inside leg kick. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Staley throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kem was covering up waiting for the punch and Staley finishes the takedown easily into guard. Kem wants to stand and escape but Staley is having none of it. Staley engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Kem wants to get back to his feet but Staley is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Kem wants to get back to his feet but Staley passes into half guard.
Staley landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Well, if Staley is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Layne Staley was stalling too much, according to the referee. Staley changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kem looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kem being controlled for a moment. Kem wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Staley takes a little break here. Kem wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Staley is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kem has escaped the position, nice work there. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Staley thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Staley is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kem's shoulder. That is not cool. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kem fails with the takedown. Kem shoots in but no luck this time. Kem shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Staley but Staley pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Val Kem. That's going to take a lot out of him. Staley shoots in and bounces Kem off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Layne Staley has got the better of the ground game so far. Staley stops Kem from standing up. Staley is stalling in the full guard. Kem is looking to stand up but Staley isn't so interested in that idea. Staley is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kem is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. OK we're going to have a standup here. Layne Staley hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Kem misses with a takedown attempt and Staley counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Staley. Staley landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Kem tries to break the clinch but Staley is controlling the position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Staley manages to pull guard.
Staley wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Kem is looking to stand up but Staley won't let him. Staley wriggles free and stands up. Kem avoids a punch combination nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Staley gets a clinch. Staley keeps control of Kem as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Staley is trying to trip Kem. He has hold of a leg but Kem is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Staley persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Staley lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Staley working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Staley landing some decent shots from guard. Staley prevents Kem from getting back to his feet. Kem has momentary wrist control but Staley slips an elbow through the middle. Kem is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Staley is controlling him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Staley stands up from guard. Let's bang! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Staley dives in and scores a takedown into Kem's guard. Kem wants to get back to his feet but Staley is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Staley is stalling in the full guard. Layne Staley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Kem bucks up and tries to throw Staley off but instead Staley has got his back! Staley controls the action. Kem defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Staley's arms. Kem holding both Staley 's hands and preventing any damage. Kem trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Staley is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Kem is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Staley.
That's one minute gone in the round. Staley is punishing Kem with strikes - can he finish him?! Oooh a big shot gets through from Staley. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
A bit of a pause in the action here. Staley controlling the positon. Kem wants to get back to his feet. Staley looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Staley looking to break Kem's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Kem remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Staley will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Kem wants to get back to his feet. Staley trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Kem doesn't escape. Kem looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Staley looking to break Kem's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Kem remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Staley will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Kem is trying to get back to his feet but Staley has full control of the position and if anything, Kem has just worked his way into a worse spot. Staley controlling the position well here. Kem rolled but Staley kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kem is trying to stand back up. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Staley.
And that's the end of the fight! Layne Staley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Staley has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
