PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mathew Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Umato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Umato has chosen Insomniac Olympics as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mathew Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ken Umato!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A leg kick checked by Dixon.
A big right from Umato misses.
Nice sprawl there from Dixon as Umato shoots in.
Dixon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Umato shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dixon as he avoids it easily.
Dixon stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Umato.
Dixon throws a right and a left that Umato avoids nicely.
Dixon misses with a wild combination.
Umato throws a low kick but Dixon avoids it.
Dixon fails in his attempt to clinch.

Umato lands with a thumping leg kick.
Umato lands a leg kick that knocks Dixon off balance momentarily.
Ken Umato seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Umato looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dixon is fending him off so far but Umato persists. Nope, Dixon circles away and we're back to standing.

Dixon throws a jab but it's blocked by Umato.

Dixon takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Umato scores with a kick to the midsection.
Umato attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Umato buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Dixon misses with a wild body shot.
Umato shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dixon pinned against the cage. Dixon gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dixon misses with the combination.
Umato lands a high kick!
Mathew Dixon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Umato lands with a kick to the temple. Dixon shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Umato shoots for a takedown but Dixon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Dixon chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Umato can pounce on him.
Dixon swings for the body but Umato moves out of range.
A clash of legs there as Dixon blocks the low kick.
Umato fails with the takedown.
Umato bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Dixon's head.
Umato scoring well with a low kick there.
Dixon is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

and Dixon counters with a left to the body.

Dixon stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Dixon tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Umato manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Umato slips a jab and a cross from Dixon.
Umato throws a nice outside leg kick.
Dixon listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Dixon lands a jab-cross combination.
Dixon is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Umato shoots in for a takedown but Dixon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Umato shoots in and drives through. Dixon sprawls well.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Umato wants to control from the top but Dixon keeps moving.
Umato is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Umato dominated that round.
That's time! Dixon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Dixon walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Umato throws a nice outside leg kick.
Umato uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Dixon.
Umato lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Dixon gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Umato steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dixon.
Dixon rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Umato counters with a nice body kick.

A telegraphed right hand from Dixon misses the target.
Umato fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Dixon tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Umato closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dixon circles away.
Mathew Dixon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Umato connects with a body shot.
Umato shoots in looking for a takedown but Dixon manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Umato's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Dixon has had enough of the clinch but Umato keeps him there for the moment.
The referee is keeping an eye on Umato - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Dixon throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Umatos head.
Dixon is trying to break free.
Dixon wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Dixon is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Dixon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Dixon throws a combination. Umato tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Umato lands with a nice body kick.

Dixon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Umato avoids the body shot from Dixon.
Umato is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dixon.
Umato changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dixon tries to avoid it but Umato manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dixon to the ground. Dixon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Umato avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Umato looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Umato is breathing heavily.

Umato dives in and scores a takedown into Dixon's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dixon is looking to stand up but Umato isn't so interested in that idea.
Umato throws a big elbow that misses.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Umato pushes down on Dixon's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Ken Umato showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Dixon shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Ken Umato seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dixon takes a kick to the side of the head.
Umato stalks Dixon and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Dixon's face. Dixon staggers backwards, shaken.
Dixon swinging wildly here.
Dixon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Dixon takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Umato lands with a kick to the temple. Dixon shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Dixon misses with a wild body shot.
Umato takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

A swing and a miss from Umato.
Dixon checks a low kick from Umato.
Umato swats away the attempt to clinch by Dixon.
Umato is looking to chop away at Dixon's legs.
Umato throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Dixon.
Dixon misses with a combination
and Umato counters with a nice low kick that buckles Dixon's knee momentarily.
Umato thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Dixon if he has to take too many more of those.
Umato connects with an inside leg kick.
Umato tries to land a leg kick but Dixon saw it coming and moves away.
Dixon looks to score with a jab to the body but Umato is just out of range.

Dixon moves into the clinch successfully.
Dixon tries to circle away but Umato has him pinned against the cage.
Dixon wants to get back to striking at distance but Umato won't allow it.
Umato controlling the action here for a moment.
Dixon has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Dixon gets underhooks to prevent Umato's takedown attempt.
Dixon will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Umato takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Sloppy strikes from Dixon. Those never looked like landing.
Nice straight punches there by Umato. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Umato.

Umato has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Umato connects with a leg kick. Dixon looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Dixon is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Dixon walks forward, straight into a front kick from Umato.
Umato tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dixon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Umato somewhat.
A decent looking cross lands there for Umato.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ken Umato comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Umato winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
