Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gary Ablett! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Aidan McVeigh! The judges for this bout are , and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ablett avoids the head kick by McVeigh.
McVeigh lands a leg kick that knocks Ablett off balance momentarily. McVeigh throws a head kick but Ablett moves out of range.
McVeigh throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. McVeigh misses with a jab, cross combination.
McVeigh showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Ablett.
McVeigh misses with a low kick. McVeigh throws a quick inside leg kick. Ablett takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
McVeigh throws a head kick but Ablett moves out of range.
Ablett doesn't manage to clinch there - McVeigh circles away.
Ablett throws a nice looking combination but McVeigh bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. McVeigh tries to land a front kick but Ablett steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Ablett feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. McVeigh looking to control.
Ablett slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. McVeigh not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ablett seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Ablett throwing strikes from guard but McVeigh blocks nicely. McVeigh has momentary wrist control but Ablett slips an elbow through the middle. Ablett looking to control the position here, rather than advance. McVeigh utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ablett drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ablett jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ablett slips nicely into half guard. Ablett passes into side control, despite McVeigh's attempt to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ablett lands some shots froms side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ablett has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for McVeigh!
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee warns McVeigh that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Ablett controlling from mount. Ablett's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. McVeigh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ablett. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ablett with shots to the head and body - McVeigh looks very uncomfortable down there. Ablett controlling the position easily from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ablett lands a couple of good shots and McVeigh has given up his back, trying to escape the position! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ablett has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. McVeigh is defending well but eventually Ablett manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! McVeigh has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
