Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jin Kazama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frankie Russo!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kazama enables Russo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kazama manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Russo works over Kazama with some ground and pound from guard.

Kazama is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Russo defends well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kazama had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Russo defends it easily.
Russo's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Russo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Russo cracks Kazama with a solid left hand.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kazama is on top in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Russo fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kazama to the ground. Russo is now in Kazama's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Russo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Kazama has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Russo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Russo wants to control from the top but Kazama keeps moving.
Russo is working Kazama over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Russo is pushing down on Kazama's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kazama is fighting to maintain full guard but Russo has managed to sneak the leg through.

Russo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Kazama is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Russo is trying to control. Kazama wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Oh Kazama is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Russo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Russo is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Russo lands a big elbow - Kazama is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Russo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Frankie Russo!
