PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Yardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mark Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dan Yardy!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yardy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Lee defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Yardy.

Yardy working for a guillotine from mount but Lee is in no mood to give up.
Lee is looking to improve his position but Yardy isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee wants to hold on but Yardy pushes him away.

Yardy gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Lee tries to clinch up but Yardy circles away and keeps his distance.

Yardy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lee's guard.
Lee will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Yardy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Lee is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lee is on top in guard.
Lee trying to control but Yardy is working from the bottom.
Lee won't allow Yardy to sweep him here.
Yardy keeping moving, preventing Lee from controlling successfully.
Lee wants to stand and escape but instead Yardy has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Yardy drops back looking for a leg! Lee is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lee manages to kick Yardy off! Yardy jumps back into Lee's guard.
Yardy looks gassed!

Yardy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lee manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Yardy has Lee in his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lee wants to control from the top but Yardy keeps moving.
Lee stopping the sweep attempt from Yardy.
Yardy keeping moving, preventing Lee from controlling successfully.
Lee is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Yardy is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Yardy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Yardy had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Lee is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Yardy Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Lee's back instead.
You can see the frustration on Lee's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Lee is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Lee just trying to survive but Yardy is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yardy punches the canvas rather than the man.
Lee trying to control the hands but Yardy won't let him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Yardy is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Yardy is not going to allow Lee to sit and survive in this position.
Yardy is trying to stick to Lee's back but Lee is turning into Yardy. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Yardy's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Lee.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Lee doesn't manage to clinch there - Yardy circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lee shoots and misses

so Yardy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Yardy dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Yardy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Lee tries for a takedown. No joy.

Yardy has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Lee is trying to keep an underhook but Yardy manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Yardy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lee does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Lee wants to get back to his feet.
Lee really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Lee gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Yardy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Lee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yardy is one step ahead there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Yardy tries to free his leg and advance position but Lee is retaining full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

and Yardy counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lee!

Yardy is working for a guillotine from mount but Lee frees his head quite easily.

Yardy is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lee knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

and Yardy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lee's guard.
Yardy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Yardy throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Dan Yardy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Lee gets caught flat footed, as Yardy shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Yardy is keen to just control but Lee is a slippery customer.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Yardy goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Lee turns into him and now he's in Yardy's guard.

I've got Yardy winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
