Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Antonio Velazquez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lorenzo Mclain! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Velazquez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mclain on his heels. He'll look to pass Mclain's guard now, I'm sure. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Velazquez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mclain can do anything to dispel that myth. Velazquez sitting in guard here, content to control. Mclain is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Velazquez with a nice head shot there. Velazquez works a leg free and moves into half guard. Mclain on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Velazquez in particular looking to stall. Velazquez slips a nice elbow through Mclain's hands, connecting with Mclain's forehead. Velazquez is thwarting Mclain's attempts to control the position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Velazquez is figuring out what he wants to do next. Mclain is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Velazquez scores with a couple of nice shots. Velazquez has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Mclain is working to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velazquez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Velazquez scoring with strikes but Mclain is staying in there. Velazquez avoids the attempt from Mclain to control. Velazquez with good strikes from the mount here! Velazquez wants to control the pace but Mclain is squirming around nicely. Velazquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Velazquez unloading with bombs! Velazquez looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Velazquez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Velazquez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Velazquez has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mclain's face.
Mclain is rocked! Velazquez lands a big elbow - Mclain is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Mclain is forced to tap out!
