The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson shoots in for a takedown but Jonez shows good takedown defense.

and Thompson counters with a series of strikes. Jonez will be more careful next time no doubt.
Jonez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jonez lands in his opponent's guard.

and Thompson counters with a three punch combo that has Jonez backing up. Jonez nods at Thompson to acknowledge the strikes.

Thompson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jonez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jonez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Jonez tries to score a body lock takedown but Thompson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Thompson is landing with some decent strikes but Jonez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Jonez tries to lock up and control but Thompson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
