Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kelvin Guillet! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Abel Herrera! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guillet shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Guillet showed some decent athleticism there. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Guillet seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Guillet is pressing down on Herrera's thigh, looking to free his foot. Herrera is holding on for now. Herrera is refusing to be controlled, as Guillet sits in half guard. Guillet slows the pace down in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
We're going to have a standup here because Kelvin Guillet wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Herrera shoots in for a takedown but Guillet shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Guillet tries to score a power double leg takedown but Herrera sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Guillet somewhat. Herrera fails with the takedown. Herrera with a lazy takedown attempt and Guillet counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Kelvin Guillet has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abel Herrera. Herrera wants to stand and escape but Guillet is having none of it. Guillet wants to control from the top but Herrera keeps moving. Guillet throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Herrera works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Guillet is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Guillet wants to control from the top but Herrera keeps moving.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Kelvin Guillet just wasn't active enough. Herrera swinging wildly here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Herrera comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Herrera moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Herrera throws a series of punches but Guillet avoids them all with ease.

Herrera looks winded! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Guillet is defended easily by Herrera. Horrible takedown by Guillet or perhaps it was just good defense by Herrera which made him look bad. Herrera throws an overhand right that lands on Guillet's shoulder, as Guillet tries to avoid the shot. Guillet shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Herrera's guard. Guillet stays in close to Herrera's body and controls the position. Herrera really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Guillet. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Guillet advances position into side control!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Guillet tries to advance to mount but Herrera denies him. Guillet wants to lay and pray for a moment but Herrera keeps working. Herrera is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Guillet controlling the position from side mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herrera moves in looking to clinch but Guillet pushes him off. Guillet looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Herrera! Kelvin Guillet overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Guillet fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Herrera being controlled for a moment. Guillet throws a strike aimed at the side of Herrera's head but Herrera avoids it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guillet is looking to take a break and control but Herrera is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Guillet wants to control for a moment but Herrera uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Guillet is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Guillet controlling the action here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Guillet is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Herrera is not content to let Guillet control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Guillet wants to pass the guard but Herrera is defending well. Guillet passes to side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Guillet trying to control the action but Herrera is working from the bottom. Herrera is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now. Guillet taking a breather here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kelvin Guillet dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Herrera loads up on a big right hand but Guillet slips the punch. Herrera moves to clinch but Guillet breaks away and Guillet counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Guillet. Guillet looking to pass the guard. Guillet is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Guillet slips nicely into half guard. Guillet not doing much here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herrera manages to escape and get back to his feet! Herrera throws a nice looking combination but Guillet bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Herrera tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Guillet counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Herrera! Herrera trying to remain calm as Guillet controls from the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Guillet advances to mount. Herrera avoids a series of strikes thrown by Guillet.
Herrera blocking the ground and pound. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Guillet controlling the pace for now. Guillet trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Guillet controlling from mount. Herrera is squirming around, avoiding Guillet's attempts to control the action. Guillet controlling his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Guillet fails to take his opponent's back.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kelvin Guillet. Herrera clinches up against the cage. Herrera is trying to force a seperation but Guillet has the dominant position. A bit of stalling here from Guillet.
Guillet jumps guard and drags Herrera to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Herrera won't allow Guillet to sweep him here. Abel Herrera has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Herrera throws an elbow that misses. Guillet uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Herrera's guard. Nice move by Guillet!
And that's the end of the fight! Kelvin Guillet showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Guillet, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
