PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Polk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Do comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Godfather Theme Song kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Polk!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Do!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Shimada and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Polk throws a low kick but Do avoids it.
Polk looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Polk connects with a crisp jab.
Polk misses with a head kick.
Polk shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Do avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
A slapping leg kick lands for Polk.
A nice leg kick lands there from Polk.
Polk attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Polk feints and then cracks Do's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Do down.
Polk finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Joe Polk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Polk will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

and Do counters with a left and a right that stings Polk.

Do is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Do not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Polk is refusing to be controlled, as Do sits in half guard.
Do seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Do thows a huge punch but Polk dodges it nicely.
Do is trying to control. Polk wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Do thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Do working his ground and pound in the gym.
This has been an exciting period of action!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Do is trying to control the action in half guard but Polk is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Do dominated that round.
That's time! Polk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A combination from Do does no damage.
Michael Do is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Do shoots in for a takedown but Polk shows good takedown defense.
Polk lands with a kick to the temple. Do shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Michael Do has been cut.
Polk wants to land a leg kick but Do is out of range.
Polk misses with a low kick.

Do gets a double leg takedown into Polk's guard.
Do throws a big right hand that misses.
Do in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Polk avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Do distracts Polk with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Do postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Polk preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Do working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Do is looking to work some ground and pound but Polk has wrist control.
Do throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Do is working Polk over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Do loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Do drops back, looking for a kneebar! Polk looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Polk looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Polk!
Do wants to control but Polk postures up.
Polk tries to stand but Do is controlling his head.
Michael Do has got the better of the ground game so far.

Do tries to improve position but can't.
Polk controls the position.
Polk sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Do is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Polk tries to get to his feet but Do is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Polk in his guard.
Polk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Do is proving hard to escape from.
Do pulls Polk in close to his closed guard and prevents Polk from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Do thows a left - swing and a miss!
Polk misses with a head kick.
Polk fakes the leg kick and cracks Do in the body.
Polk misses with a hook.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Do on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Polk ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Do moves away.
Joe Polk is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Do throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Do showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Michael Do's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A nice leg kick lands there from Polk.
Do uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Polk.
Polk throws a leg kick but Do checks it.
Do moves out of range as Polk throws a body kick.
Some bone on bone action there as Do checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Polk tries to work over Do's front leg with a kick but Do checks it.
Polk lands an overhand right.

Polk throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Polk tries to clinch up but Do circles away and keeps his distance.

Do shoots in and gets a takedown into Polk's guard.
Do throwing strikes from guard but Polk blocks nicely.
Do throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Polk works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Do accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Do tries to free his leg and advance position but Polk is retaining full guard.
Do throwing strikes but missing.
Do chips away with some ground and pound.
Polk is trying to keep Do in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Do's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Do postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Do postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Do throws a big right hand that misses.
Polk utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Do wants to pass the guard but Polk is keeping the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Do lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Polk has momentary wrist control but Do slips an elbow through the middle.
Do slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Do working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Do connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Polk some visible discomfort.
Do misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Polk taking punishment in the form of punches.
Do throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Polk takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Do looks up at the clock and then as Polk takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Do smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Do trying to control the action but Polk is working from the bottom.
Do scoring with punches and elbows.


Polk is rocked!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Do scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Polk is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Do can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michael Do!

Michael Do tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
