Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Garnet! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marco Mandrake! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garnet swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mandrake gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mandrake is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Garnet's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Garnet's back! Mandrake gets his hands free as Garnet looks to control. Even with his hooks in, Mandrake manages to miss with strikes from the back. You can see the frustration on Garnet's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mandrake is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Garnet is defending well though. Mandrake let's go of the attempt for now. Garnet wants to escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Garnet trying to control but not successfully. Garnet is keeping busy.

That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mandrake's guard. Garnet looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Garnet takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Mandrake moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Garnet prevents Mandrake from getting back to his feet. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Garnet has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Garnet working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Garnet dodges the punch combination from Mandrake.
Garnet gets the takedown into side control. Mandrake is trying to control Garnet's posture but Garnet avoids it. Mandrake takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
You can see the frustration on Mandrake's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Mandrake is not content to let Garnet control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mandrake throws a right and a left that both miss. Mandrake with a poor takedown and Garnet counters with a two punch combo.

That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Mandrake takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mandrake wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Nice strikes from Garnet there. Garnet is looking to take a break and control but Mandrake is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Garnet working Mandrake over with strikes. Garnet is looking for a kimura but Mandrake is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Garnet to get the leverage. Mandrake keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Garnet missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mandrake is on top in guard.
