Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Bisping! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Smith! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Reed Andrews and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bisping doesn't succeed with the takedown and Smith counters with a right hand to the body. Bisping with a poor takedown and Smith counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Smith lands a head kick!
Bisping takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Smith drives through with a takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Smith is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Smith gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Nice sprawl there from Smith as Bisping shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Bisping. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bisping shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Bisping's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Smith shoots in and bounces Bisping off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Smith content to stall in guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Bisping is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Smith trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Smith pushes down on Bisping's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Bisping tries to hold on but Smith pushes him away. Smith controlling from the full mount. Smith prevents Bisping from getting the reversal. Bisping on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bisping tries to get out of the position. Smith lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Bisping hang on? Bisping blocking the ground and pound. Bisping tries to hold on but Smith pushes him away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You get the feeling that Bisping really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Smith thowing shots but they're missing. Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Bisping is squirming around, avoiding Smith's attempts to control the action. Bisping avoids a series of strikes thrown by Smith.
Bisping is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Bisping is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Smith is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Bisping is trying to reverse the position but instead Smith has taken his back - oops! Smith keeps control of the position as Bisping tries to break free.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A bit of a pause in the action here. Smith controlling the positon. Smith looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Bisping taps!
