Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joey Nix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phillip Vanderwegen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nix throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nix throws a front kick aimed at Vanderwegen's knee but Vanderwegen avoids it well.
Vanderwegen doesn't manage to clinch there - Nix circles away.
Vanderwegen takes a kick to the side of the head.
Nix tries a head kick but it misses.

Vanderwegen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nix pinned against the cage. Nix gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Vanderwegen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nix's waist but Nix gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vanderwegen off to one side.

Vanderwegen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Nix is trying to improve his position.

Vanderwegen stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Nix tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Vanderwegen swivels and escapes.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vanderwegen.
Joey Nix has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phillip Vanderwegen.
Nix throws a head kick but Vanderwegen moves out of range.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vanderwegen controls the position.
You can see the frustration on Nix's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Vanderwegen has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Vanderwegen should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Vanderwegen lands a big elbow.

Nix is looking to improve his position but Vanderwegen isn't that keen on the idea.

Nix is trying to reverse the position but instead Vanderwegen has taken his back - oops!
Vanderwegen really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Nix.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vanderwegen is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Nix won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Vanderwegen off his unconscious opponent!
